Pastor Rachel’s Story in “Called to Serve” Podcast

Hello,
My name is Hannah Roberts – I had the privilege of interviewing Pastor Rachel Kwan for the Called to Serve oral history project! I’m happy to tell you that her interview has been featured in Season 2 of our podcast. I encourage you to share this episode with any people or groups you think may be interested in hearing her story!

“Called to Serve” is an oral history project featuring women who were ordained by Baptist churches in Atlantic Canada between 1950 and 2020. More than 100 women were ordained during this time. We hope that hearing about these women’s ministries, joys, and struggles will encourage and challenge others. We also hope that analyzing these women’s experiences will contribute to scholarly understanding of North American women in ministry.
Thanks,
Hannah Roberts

“Daniel and the Friendly Beasts.”
Dan. 6:10. Ref: Mt. 27:15-26; Mt. 11:25.

2023-10-08.

“In this Daniel story narrative, those who are really guilty need to be punished. But on the contrary, the innocent (Daniel), although condemned wrongfully, is not hurt at all. However, in the account of Jesus, the opposite is true. He was sinless, He was innocent…but in the eyes of God when Jesus was on the cross, He was not innocent because He at that time took on the sins of the world when He was nailed and dying on the cross. So here is the twist: the innocent Jesus became sin in the eyes of God when He took on the sins of sinners. But because of this flip, all sinners have become innocent in God’s eyes when they enter into a relationship with Jesus! And this is why today we can give thanks today, and this is what we profess today…”

“Do you want to come to Jesus and thank Him? He is the only one who is willing to put our sins on his back and carry this heavy load of ours. Yet, He remained unharmed, unhurt by sin – like Daniel unhurt in the midst of the lions…That’s if we all stay in Jesus, we have peace, and we have rest, and our load is light. For us, that is the most important and ultimate reason to acknowledge and engage with Him continuously – day by day, hour by hour, with thanksgiving in our hearts. May today’s message give us a new depth of joy and a deeper sense of rest when we consider that God’s beloved Son, Jesus who is the innocent, the sinless man who became sin on the cross, so that you and I who are sinners can become the innocent in the sight of God. Let’s pray: …”
