Thoughts to Follow

It is not often that we see an exaltation of larks soaring in the sky in Canada, but there are plenty of Canada geese around! Canada Geese are famous for their V formation when they fly, right?

First part of the letter V about Jesus is from high to low, from heaven to earth…becoming a man, the incarnation part until His suffering and His death. (Phil. 2:6-8) … With His death came His burial: the lowest point in the V… fulfilling the Sabbath of God – the complete rest and foreshadowing the Sabbath for all believers of Jesus.

And finally, the third part in the V, the rising up part: Jesus’ resurrection, His exaltation, His ascension, the entering in Glory, just as He said in this conversation in Lk 24 v26! (Phil 2 v9-11) And Jesus asked Cleopas and his companion on the way to Emmaus, away from the centre of their faith and worship, … Don’t you believe in what I have said?

When we join Jesus at some point in His V, death is not the end of everything, or …the beginning of being forever separated from God….Yes, in this world we suffer and die. Yet, does it mean God no longer loves us if we have to face trouble, or are being persecuted, or go hungry, or in danger, or being threatened with death? Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? (Rom. 8:35, 38-39) No! Rather, in Christ we have the love to generate the faith and the hope…

Yes, we will grow old, we will be sick, we may have good days and bad days, and all kinds of days in between, but we have that hope this is grounded in the love of Christ. And yes, we will still do what we don’t want to do, and don’t do what we want to do. That is a biblical reality (Rom 7:19) . Therefore, let’s be patient so that we will be become part of that picture when Jesus’ V starts to rise up. And this we know and believe: If Jesus rose to God’s glory, we will, too! … I will continue to unpack more next time.

“An Exaltation of Larks, part 1.” (Lk. 24:25-27)
