FSBC E-News: Feb. 22, 2024

FSBC E-News: Feb. 22, 2024

Welcome to the fourth FSBC E-News of the month!

We look forward to welcoming you and your guests at our beautiful location this week.

Scriptures to Ponder

We are in the second week of the 2024 Lent season. Know that you are not alone in seeking God. Jesus promised God’s help to those who seek Him. Jesus said, “Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.” (John 7:17 NIV).

“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty“:

1. We all like what’s familiar to us, or what has become comfortable to us. Nothing wrong with that. but we need to know: Is that what we cling onto?
2. What are you most comfortable with – but at the same time, you know that God has been tugging at your heart, telling you to have faith and trust Him to help you move forward, even though for now it will be uncomfortable and unfamiliar?
3. When you are willing to step out of what you perceive as your comfort zone, He will surely hold your hand, and carry you with Him to new growth, new expansion, and new heights.

Previous Sermons

“Sink Into Your Ears”
Ref: Luke 9:22, 44, 37-45.

Quotes from the sermon:
“May God help us see the things that God tells us AS HE TELLS IT, not as our own conceptual ideas about Him, because His concept always has a good ending. His way of doing things always has blessings at the end. There is always light at the end of the tunnel.”

“What about us? With our limited understanding of things that can be seen and of things that cannot be seen with the human eye, we could say that sometimes we do corner God in our understanding: ‘My God would not do that… My God keeps me from ALL danger and all challenges….God is the Blessing Man. so if Jesus had to suffer and die, He is not of God… My God …only brings all blessings when we believe, and He will bless our descendants for thousands of generations to come. No way He will allow suffering for His chosen ones’.”

“No wonder when hard times come, we fall, we cannot get back up. Everything is all dark, all hopeless, and we don’t see the seed of hope even in the horizon, like the disciples could only hear that Jesus said He would be killed, and they gave up hope already, they did not even hear what would come after Jesus was killed. His resurrection proves to us that …. darkness will not reign forever, death will not conquer us forever. God will turn things around. We may have to wait for a few days, or a period of time. But things will turn out, so let’s grab onto the seed of hope.”

“In our story today, it looks like Jesus demands the disciples to take IN the hard part of His message, that He was going to be delivered into the hands of sinners, yet this part was precisely what He commanded them to let sink into their ears. Today, when God asks us to take into our hearts something that is different from what we had preconceived or envisioned, HOW can we let His Words sink into our ears, how do we take it in?

We use our faith to believe – the resurrection part, the hopeful part, together with the hard part, and the best part will happen later as He tells it.”

Rev. Rachel Kwan. 11:00 AM, Sunday Service, 2024-02-18. Fundy Seaside Baptist Church, NB, Canada.

Monday, February, 26: Learning Labs

  • The CBAC’s Leadership Academy is launching an accessible and practical resource for volunteer leaders in our churches, offering sessions that help them grow and lead in this current moment.
  • On the last Monday evening of the month (February, March, April & May), sessions will be offered covering various topics.
  • Take a look here: https://baptist-atlantic.ca/news/lay-learning-labs/
  • Note that they take place concurrently. You can only choose one.
  • Some topics have more than one part, with subsequent sessions taking place in the following months.

Below is the list of what is offered on Feb. 26th

  • Rev. Renée MacVicar – CBAC intro, Discerning Vision. This learning lab introduces you further to this big, beautiful, loving family we call the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada. Plus, we’ll explore how we’re discerning vision at the CBAC and how YOU can lead a process to discern vision in your local context.
  • Rev. Dr. Greg Jones – Mission Edge Churches: Home Grown/Right Size (Session 1 of 2). The common complaint often heard is that recommended resources may be helpful for some other churches in other places; but they’re not right for us. Mission Edge Churches is a model/tool developed by CBAC churches for CBAC churches … and churches of all sizes. In this lab we will introduce the basic precepts of Mission Edge Churches, exploring how at its core it is simply a renewed call for all CBAC churches to live out the mission God has given to all churches in all places at all times.
  • Rev. Paul Ross – Ministry with those who are disabled (Session 1 of 3). Paul will share his experience through I AM Ministries by looking at “A Luke 14 Kingdom Venture: Ministry Beyond Barriers.” In this session, he will look at an introduction to special needs and disability.
  • Jacqueline Derrah – Refugee Sponsorship: Welcoming Strangers with Loving Hospitality. We’ll learn more about what life is like for refugees, how Canadian churches are key in the Private Sponsorship Program, and some of the ways that our churches and individuals can be instruments of hope for the hopeless. We’ll consider some practical ways to love, welcome and extend hospitality in our new neighbourhoods.
  • Rev. Dan Pyke – The Value of Authenticity in Next-Generation Ministry. Our students want to know that faith makes a difference in their schools, work, and neighbourhood. I’m inviting you to consider some of the big trends in youth culture, and how we can respond to those trends through discipleship and a posture of authenticity.
