Thoughts to Follow

“Did we notice that there are two FIRSTs in these scenarios? ‘FIRST let me go bury my father’, and ‘FIRST let me say goodbye to my family’. Are we seeking to gain our family’s approval or even obtain “their blessings” first before we decide to go ahead with following Jesus? To want our families’ approval FIRST would show what we value most in our lives … and this will hold us back because we will always be looking back at them even if the rest of our bodies are moving forward …like the imagery of looking back with one’s hands on the plough …it means – treasuring what you have in the past, holding on to it, and wanting to have approval and get validation from it …”

“As Lent progresses, we tend to think about what we give up or we lose in order to follow Jesus more closely – when in reality, in our day to day life and in any season of life, Jesus intends that we receive more blessings in abundance for ourselves and for our loved ones… Many of us have an idea that God is some sort of a twisted, mad old man who enjoys tormenting people and seeing us suffer, and giving us hardship and difficult things to do in order to follow Him… In fact, we actually GAIN a lot when we follow Him…sharing our life with Jesus…the King of kings, Lord of lords who is the source of every blessing.”

“Jesus is saying to us: When I talk about dens and nests, I am trying to tell you that my home is the kind of place that you cannot find in this world – a place that is of a more permanent basis. I already know where my permanent home is. But what about you, my friend? Do you know that your permanent home cannot be found in this world, too? And are you looking for such a long-term home outside of this world?”

Rev. Rachel Kwan. 11:00 AM, Sunday Service, “A Tale with Two Headings.” 2024-03-17.

CBAC Lay Learning Labs

  • The CBAC’s Leadership Academy is launching an accessible and practical resource for volunteer leaders in our churches, offering sessions that help them grow and lead in this current moment.
  • On the last Monday evening of the month (February, March, April & May), sessions will be offered covering various topics.
  • Take a look here: https://baptist-atlantic.ca/news/lay-learning-labs/
  • Note that they take place concurrently. You can only choose one.

March 25th

  • Rev. Renée MacVicar – Joining God in the Neighbourhood. Together, we’ll look at Jesus’s encounter with a Samaritan woman at the well. We’ll consider what it means for us and our church, as today we join God at the ‘wells’ in our communities.
  • Rev. Dr. Greg Jones – Mission Edge Churches: What’s in Your Hand (Session 2 of 2). This Part 2 of exploring Mission Edge Churches emphasizes that each and every church has all that they need for at least the first/next step(s) of the journey God has for them, but often we fail to appreciate it. In this lab we will explore the Congregational Guide developed for Mission Edge Churches, and how it can be used to bring your congregation together to discern its calling in the neighbourhood(s) where He has you, in part by considering all the resources your church already has.
  • Rev. Paul Ross – Ministry with those who are disabled (Session 2 of 3). In continuing with “A Luke 14 Kingdom Venture: Ministry Beyond Barriers,” Paul will talk about the Key Concepts and Strategies that they have developed at I AM Ministries that can be helpful in creating a ministry to and with those with special needs and disabilities.
  • Laura Bennett – The Trellis: A Framework for Flourishing in Life and Ministry. Increasingly, we see a need for next-generation leaders to be grounded in a holistic approach to following Jesus to best serve the young people in their care. That’s why we created ‘The Trellis.’ Come learn about our framework for flourishing and how it might change your personal journey, team, and ministry culture.
